Cleaning and Prevention

Healthy vs. Disease Cleaning

The Good Dentist is founded on the principle of prevention. It is the most important service that we offer. It is our hope that we either educated you or offered a service unlike you’ve ever had at the dentist. Can you tell we are obsessed with prevention? We hope so. If you want to see how obsessed we are, check out Dr. Fedusenko’s two publications on prevention below.

All patients are recommended biannual cleanings and examinations. Not only do they help you quash dental problems before they arise, they leave your gums healthier, and your teeth cleaner and whiter. A professional cleaning removes hard plaque (tartar) that cannot be removed by brushing and flossing alone. It also can involve a fluoride treatment and polish (if you want) to help protect and soothe your teeth and gums. Even if you haven’t had a cleaning in over two years, it’s never too late to treat your teeth and gums.

What are some Good preventative measures I can take?

  • Brush with a fluoride or xylitol toothpaste, spit don’t swallow

  • Add some baking soda to your toothpaste (it raises the pH of your mouth)

  • Eat foods that have high Arginine content (cheese, nuts, yogurt, spinach)

  • Use a soft-bristled (or electric) toothbrush after each meal. I LOVE Sonicare.

  • Floss daily before bedtime (WaterPik’s work great too)

  • Use an alcohol free oral rinse after flossing (Synedent is great)

  • Avoid snacking sugary foods, coffee, and tobacco (snack on those Arginine foods)

  • Get nerdy and track your salivary pH to know your own mouth

  • Try some Oral Health Probiotics (helps to change the microbiome of your mouth to healthy bacteria)
